EU reps to start coordinating 12th Russian sanctions package on Fri
BRUSSELS, Nov 15 (PRIME) -- The permanent representatives of the E.U. countries will start coordinating the 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions at a meeting of the Committee of the Permanent Representatives Coreper on Friday, as seen by PRIME on Wednesday in the meeting’s agenda.
The representatives will hold the first exchange of opinions on the sanction suggestions of the European Commission.
A European Commission representative confirmed to PRIME that the authority submitted suggestions on the new sanctions, and that the new package would include bans on imports and exports and measures for control over the prices for Russian oil. The package is aimed at undermining Russia’s income from exports of diamonds to Europe and its partners, which will be done in cooperation with the G-7 countries, the person said.
The suggestions also include tough measures against companies from the third countries that help bypass the anti-Russian sanctions. The European Commission would actively work with the E.U. member countries so that the new sanctions are approved as soon as possible, the representative said.
Bloomberg reported that the commission’s suggestions include a ban on imports of diamonds from Russia from January 1 and bans of exports of machine tools and machinery parts that Russia uses to make weapons targeting Ukraine. Reuters reported that the commission suggested blacklisting 47 individuals and 72 companies.
